Pakistan and US join hands for NY bomb investigation

* Officials questioning four alleged Jaish-e-Muhammad members
* Official says ‘no evidence has yet linked Faisal to any Pak group’

KARACHI: US and Pakistani officials are questioning four alleged Jaish-e-Muhammad members over possible connections to the failed Times Square bombing suspect, intelligence officials said on Thursday as The Washington Post reported the US would ask Pakistan for help in investigations, and Faisal Shahzad continued providing useful information.

Pakistani security officials said US and Pakistani officials had been given access to the alleged Jaish members – arrested from Karachi over possible links to Shahzad. The Post reported Washington was preparing a request for assistance to be presented by the end of the week. The US has so far only asked to interview Shahzad’s parents. While the New York Times claimed evidence was mounting that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan helped inspire and train Shahzad, a senior security official said, “So far, no concrete evidence has linked him to any Pakistani group.” The official said security agencies were questioning Shahzad’s relatives and friends in Islamabad, Karachi and Pabbi.
