14 terrorists killed in Orakzai, Swat


PESHAWAR/MINGORA: The security forces, backed by helicopter gunships and fighter jets, killed eight militants in Orakzai Agency and another six in Swat district, official sources said on Sunday.

Sources said eight Taliban were killed when the forces attacked militant hideouts in Orakzai’s Mamozai area, destroying three hideouts completely while six insurgents were also injured
in the attack. Separately, six militants, including key Taliban commander Fazal Rahim alias Karar, were killed during a clash with the security forces in Swat district, security officials said.

Nine hand grenades and other arms and ammunition were also recovered by the troops during the operation in Charbagh tehsil’s Tuligram area.

Rahim and the other Taliban were killed by the forces’ retaliatory fire after the Taliban opened indiscriminate fire on the troops during a search operation in the mountainous Tuligram area. The key Taliban commander was wanted in various criminal cases including carrying out attacks on security forces and target killings.

Surrender: Also, Taliban commander Sher Muhammad laid down arms and surrendered to the security forces in Swat’s Kaday Sir Minglawar area.

According to official sources, the key Taliban commander was wanted by law enforcement agencies in various criminal cases.

Further, acting on information extracted from the Taliban leader during interrogation, the forces also arrested a suspected person and shifted him to an undisclosed location.
