LUCKNOW: The support for Anna Hazare poured in from different quarters, including employees of Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday. From sections of state secretariat staff and members of other government departments, protest meets, held across the city, included those staged by the Joint Action Committee of UP Power Employees Federation, members of UP Forest Corporation Officers and Staff Association, UP Secondary Education Teachers Association, and the Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat.

An anti-corruption signature campaign was also launched by the Save Cultural Values Foundation at Jhulelal Park, along with a candlelight march in Gomtinagar.

Convener of India Against Corruption’s (IAC’s) Lucknow chapter, RK Agarwal, said: “Nearly 700 doctors from CSMMU along with 200 bankers and LIC employees joined this movement. Other State government employees also lent their support to it. Meetings and candlelight marches have been organised. The agitation will continue till Annaji’s demand for a strong Lokpal is met.”

Lawyers too staged demonstrations to protest against the ”arbitrary” arrest of Anna Hazare on Tuesday morning. Apart from government officials and working professionals, the swelling support also included members of the civil society, housewives and students. A string of meetings were held outside the offices of Life Insurance Corporation, banks and railways, with pro-Hazare sloganeering renting the air. An employee of UP Power Corporation Ltd, Pratap, said: “I and several of my colleagues joined the fight against corruption yesterday. We could not stay away from work all day, but we came to express solidarity with the movement during lunch hours and after we finished work. ‘
